FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

POSITIVE WELLNESS ALLIANCE LEADERSHIP SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN GILEAD COMPASS’ TRAUMA-INFORMED LEADERSHIP AND SUPERVISION COHORT

Winston-Salem, NC (July 19, 2022) - The experiences and backgrounds of each person, including trauma, plays an important role in how care should be delivered. Trauma informed care acknowledges traumatic experiences to deliver effective care. This has the potential to improve client experiences, treatment adherence, outcomes, as well as provider and staff wellness. Positive Wellness Alliance’s commitment to quality care will take a progressive step in the coming months.

Positive Wellness Alliance will be one of four to six organizations selected for Gilead COMPASS Initiative’s LEARN: Trauma-Informed Leadership and Supervision (TILS) cohort. Selected agencies, such as Positive Wellness Alliance, were awarded $10,000 to support costs related to implementing their trauma-informed leadership and supervision project. Executive Director, Sophia Russell, and Supportive Services Director, Michael Anders, will undergo the four month program in order to develop trauma-informed policies and procedures for the agency and staff. They will begin the program in August.

“Trauma-informed policies and procedures are crucial to delivering the best case management services possible to our clients and internal partners,” said Sophia Russell, Executive Director of Positive Wellness Alliance. “By understanding one’s unique background, we are able to deliver unique care.”

“Trauma-informed care is a ground-breaking focus of many agencies to teach us how to make policies more inclusive,” said Micheal Anders, Supportive Services Director. By addressing the unique needs of clients, we are able to provide a more enhanced direct practice service.”

Positive Wellness Alliance is a 501c(3) organization that helps people living with HIV/AIDS in eight counties in North Carolina. Founded in 1992, and incorporated in 1994, the organization provides case management, financial assistance, and housing assistance services as well as a community food pantry, which is open to the public.
